The collection of records mainly covers the Counties of Cork, Limerick, Dublin and Monaghan, however there are also records from more than half the counties of Ireland. They are overwhelmingly taken from Church of Ireland (Episcopalian) parish registers.
Many of the Cork parish registers were transcribed as part of a joint project with Michael Leader (who's archive of additional transcripts is now housed at the library of the Irish Genealogical Research Society). The ffolliott collection published here does contain a master index of all the marriages records discovered by both relating to County Cork.
The records were created from the original parish registers or from transcripts that were held at the Public Records Office in Dublin, now the National Archives. Some parish names are abbreviated, there is a list of these abbreviations in the Useful links and resources.
This collection is not intended to be a definitive list of all records that exist for each parish, they are a list of registers that were transcribed at various dates between the 1950s and the 1990s.
Rosemary ffolliott was Ireland’s premier genealogist, who at the age of 23 she had her first book The Pooles of Mayfield, a history of settler families in the Cork area published in 1958. From the 1950s to the 1970s she was a member of the panel of freelance researchers engaged by the Genealogical Office,. In addition, she revised A simple guide to Irish Genealogy which was originally written by Father Wallace Clare, the founder of the IGRS.
She became a prominent member of the Irish Genealogical Research Society and in 1966 became a Fellow, the first woman to be recognised in this way. For a time she was Editor of their journal, The Irish Genealogist.
On leaving the IGRS in 1969, she started her own successful journal The Irish Ancestor, which combined genealogy and social history topics as well as transcripts of important records (some of which are available here at Findmypast). It ran until 1986.
Another important project was her extensive extracts from early Munster newspapers. These are also available at Findmypast.
Miss ffolliot moved from Dublin to Fethard, County Tipperary in the 1980s, she remained there until the early 2000s when she moved to the English Midlands to live.
Rosemary ffolliott passed away on the 12 March 2009 while tending to her garden.
